Replaced my laptop keyboard - now laptop doesn't work!

Options
Nightmare - tried my very best to save some pennies by replacing my laptop keyboard which all seemed to go to plan fine.

However, my laptop will not now power up??? When I plug in the power lead the lights on the battery indicator are showing green, however when I press the power on button absolutely nothing!!!

Can anyone offer any advice as now v.worried in that this is going to backfire on me and result in costing me more.

Many thanks in advnace for any advices, Richard

Who made the laptop and which model is it?

Did you have to take anything off other than the keyboard to replace it? There is usually a small cable or ribbon between the upper part of the case and the motherboard, could this have come loose? Maybe take the keyboard off again and see if you can see any loose cables underneath.

Every laptop is different and has connectors in different places but if you can provide the make and model we might be able to find out where the power button connects to the board.

Thanks OGR - laptop is a Toshiba Satellite L350.

When I replaced the keyboard I had to unplug one small (approx 7-8mm square) white box and the ribbon that was attached to the old keyboard. Although fiddly to do I was confident that I managed to plug both back in safely once the new keyboard was installed.

I did remove the battery when I replaced the keyboard - the fact that I'm getting no power one I press the on button wouldn't be anything to do with this would it??

    Thanks, Richard

I assume you have put the battery back in before trying to power it up? Some laptops will run without, some won't although usually they will come on.

Usually you only need to disconnect the ribbon from the motherboard on a laptop, why did you have to disconnect the other?

Just taken the keyboard off of an old A120 but it is quite different it seems so going to have to rely on your descriptions at first.

WOW!!!! Amazed myself guys and fixed it!!

Undid the laptop again and found a tiny wire that must have slipped out when I put the keyboard in.

Chuffed with myself and having bought and replaced a keyboard cover!

Thanks for your help though guys - now to go back to my thread of yesteday regards my daughters non-working PC!!!

    Thx, richard
