I agree with BillScarab because of the large sum of money involved. Some sellers offer full warranties (usually for brand new systems), but no one knows what their support is like. If you don't mind taking the risk & prepared to carry out your own repairs if anything happens, then go for eBay. There are some great bargains to be had, but be aware that what you may perceive as a bargain may not be in reality. Carry out your own research/comparison with retailers websites prior to bidding/purchasing - ask for others' opinions too.

P.S. Btw, I've had a very good experience buying secondhand/new PC components (not a complete PC though!) off eBay for the last 4½ years. There were problems at times, but fortunately all were sorted in my favour with some polite negotiation. Fortunately the sellers I had to deal with were good people too, who were willing to help/refund/replace/etc
