I hope that my child, looking back on today
Will remember a mother who had time to play;
Because children grow up while you're not looking,
There are years ahead for cleaning and cooking.
So, quiet now cobwebs, dust go to sleep.
I'm nursing my baby, and babies don't keep.

You may have to pay council tax. You should contact your council and explain the situation. Generally councils give a second home reduction of about 25% while the property is empty if it's furnished, most give six months exemption if the property is unfurnished but this is sometimes six months in the life of the property so if you or a previous owner have had an empty exemption before, you may still have to pay.
If you switch off the electricity and gas you won't be using any power, but if your tariff includes standing charges then you will still have bills to pay. However if freezing weather is forecast, you should leave the heating on at a low level and open the loft hatch so you don't get burst pipes.
You will still have water charges to pay if you are on RV (unmetered). I am not sure about metered charges, you should check with your supplier.
You should still insure the property, though you should let the insurer know that the property is empty, and comply with any rules they have aout inspecting the property regularly.0 -
