New York on a budget!

Hi everyone!

Off to New York on Saturday but a bit skint!

Does anyone know of any cheap things to do or see? Or good, cheap places to eat?

Thank you!

Walk over Brooklyn bridge. Magnolia bakery for a muffin.

museum of modern art is free fridays after 4pm. some other museums - the Met, the museum of natural history, have a "recommended donation" for entry but you can pay whatever you like. Don't eat out at night, eat at lunchtime - or try for a prix fixe theatre dinner, I saw some for $15 for three courses on 8th or 9th avenue in midtown, north of times square.

Richard beat me to it! :pLove the Magnolia Bakery

What I would add is walk...walk...walk...you'll see so much. Also use the subway rather than cabs - much cheaper and feels very safe.

We went to a few of the comedy clubs. 5-6 different comedians. We bought coffee, shared a peace of cake and afterwards went to a New York Diner where the real New Yorkers hang out. Plenty of food for good prices.

Take a trip on the Staten Island Ferry. You get a great view of the Statue of Liberty and it is totally free.

Also, the 'Search' facility on this forum has no charge either

We went into Grand Central and spotted a wedding party being photographed. We saw the bride and groom, about six bridesmaids and six ushers. We asked one of them if the wedding had taken place in the station but they said they were only there to have the photographs done in a beautiful old building...that's what you get in the "new world"!
