Graduate Bank Accounts

Hi everyone,
Has anyone had any experience with applying for a graduate bank account at a different bank from the one with which they had their student account?
I was under the impression that this was possible but in fact I was recently rejected by Natwest on the basis that I had not held my student account with them.
One year after graduation, Halifax (the bank who hosts my student account) intend to start charging me overdraft fees which I can ill afford. Yes, I understand that's what people have to live with in the real world but I have plans to reduce my overdraft and need just a little more fee-free time
Thanks for your interest,
James

Yes and no. I gave up looking for a graduate account and instead concentrated on reducing my overdraft as much as possible before the fees kicked in: I've managed to cut it by over half to £900
I've also arranged an overdraft with the Co-op, who have more reasonable fees and a more ethical approach to banking, both of which are important to me. 0 -
