I just wonder though just exactly how many of the posters who have given me a kicking here are, or will soon be Tax paying Pensioners with income from whatever source over £10,500 a year?
Would their comments be different I wonder if it was them on the receiving-end of something like what has happened in respect of the Elderly Tax Allowance tax allowance being FROZEN for for all time?
That's me. I am a tax-paying pensioner, as is my DH. Want to make something out of it?Ær ic wisdom funde, ær wearð ic eald.

@Sandwich
As I see it.
People can choose to commit GBH or not entirely at will.
More offences = need for more deterrent.
Less offences = no change in deterrent since there is no general social benefit to GBH
People have some flexibility over their income.
High tax rate = reduction in discretionary earnings and tax paid.
Lower tax rare = increase in discretionary earnings and increasing tax paid.
Society want the tax yield so must adapt to changes made by their polices.0 -

Indeed. Expect pensioner re-education camps shortly under the OP's brave new world.
Or the even more radical Brechtian solution of changing the people entirely.
I know I'm giving this tiresome gibberish more page 1 time by posting, but I come on here to try & help people with my specialised knowledge if at all possible & these threads are just noise. All heat, no light. It only takes one tree to make a thousand matches, it only takes one match to burn a thousand trees. As well, the cars are all passing me, bright lights are flashing me.

Since when did government forumulate policy on the basis of whether or not the people the policy was targeted at are willing to abide by the laws of the land?0

I am on my own and pay tax as well as millions of others that are on their OWN with 1 state pension to live on. The self righteous pensioner on here is a couple with 2 state pensions, 2 private pensions and 2 non taxable Attendance Allowance to enjoy. :T:T
How many times must you be told someone living on one state pension wouldn't pay tax under the current under 65 personal allowance never mind the age related allowance anyway ? So this move won't affect them in the slightest.
If someone who's saved for their retirement is self righteous I'd rather be that than emotionally incontinent based on no knowledge or tabloid chip wrappers. It only takes one tree to make a thousand matches, it only takes one match to burn a thousand trees. As well, the cars are all passing me, bright lights are flashing me.

For such an obvious lifestyle choice, as you are suggesting is being made, perhaps you could develop an illness which would warrant a claim for AA?
[Didn't you like the reply you originally posted? I don't find it odd that a couple have two pensions. And if both are eligible it is not odd that both get AA. You get one pension , and no AA- what's your point?]0 -

It has certainly proved that not everyone is as self-centred and highly opinionated, based on misinformation, as you.I just wonder though just exactly how many of the posters who have given me a kicking here are, or will soon be Tax paying Pensioners with income from whatever source over £10,500 a year?
Unfortunately this will never reach your eyes as you have ignored practically everyone on this thread but for what it's worth I'll comment.
What makes a pensioner? Someone who receives a pension? So yes I'm a pensioner as I have been receiving a pension for almost 10 years. Yes I pay tax - 20% on all of my pension.
What else makes a pensioner? Some who is is retired and not working? Yes that will be me in a maximum of 4 years. Will I be paying tax? Yes on all but whatever my personal allowance will be.
What else makes a pensioner? Is it age? Not quite so clear cut. Females retiring at age 60 couldn't get the age related allowance till they were age 65.Would their comments be different I wonder if it was them on the receiving-end of something like what has happened in respect of the Elderly Tax Allowance tax allowance being FROZEN for for all time?
Already happening to 40% tax payers. Frozen this year and reducing next year.I do of course appreciate that some time in the future the bottom tax band will catch up and even overtake it. In the meantime tax paying Pensioners will have lost many hundreds, if not thousands of pounds. And will continue to do so until one pops the clogs!
What a load of rubbish. Do you actually believe that? You have worked out that it will cost you £83 and that's assuming a 4% pension rise.Particularly new tax paying Pensioners who are effected badly as they will lose out on £325 a year from next April.
Again rubbish. You can't lose something you were never entitled to.Bye Bye.
Hopefully that's a promise.0 -
The poster was well known on Age Concern forum that is now defunct she was always preaching to pensioners how good she was with money and how they managed and could not understand why all pensions were not like her and disabled hubby as they were managing so well on their state pensions.
Teajug - I see you have now deleted your previous two posts and quite rightly so, although it's quoted in RichardJ's post.
Your posts smack of envy and do yourself no favours. You now complain of margaretclare preaching on another forum but you seem now to be preaching on here.
I haven't always agreed with everything margaretclare has said but it seems that both she and her husband have worked hard over the years and are entitled to the pensions, both state and private, that they receive. If they now need a a little bit of extra help and Attendance Allowance is what will do it then why should they not apply for it.
Would you rather have an illness or disablility that made you eligible or would you rather have your health?
Good grief - this thread has really descended to the depths.0 -
