Think Jessops have sold me a used camera as new

Check the operating instructions. Mine states the camera is shipped with an uncharged battery. I would return it, someone else has!. If you can match the camera and price elsewhere I would do that. Why give the shop your custom after selling you a returned camera as new and failing to admit to it.0

Mine came with a partially charged battery (bought from argos) But the first they tried to give me was an obvious open/returned item. I asked for an unopened, manufacturer sealed one, and that's what I got second time.
Some batteries have charge on them from testing, but we're talking small charge, where you need to charge it once you get it for full use.
A display model is not new, despite having been not "sold" per say. Generally they've been handled many times, used, often abused by jamming it back down (especially on the little compact stands, rather than the expensive boxes that you have to ask to view) and may also show general signs of wear and tear, chips, wear marks, scratches on screen.
Fine if you get a bargain knowing its an exdisplay, but not if you want to buy a new camera.
Go in and check it out the "new" one, if you're happy it looks pretty unused, then if you feel ok, accept it. otherwise get a refund and go elsewhere for it.0 -
I swear the batteries are usually empty.
Not these days. It was one of the biggest complaint buyers had that once they'd bought their new toy they had to wait hours for the battery to charge before they could play with whatever it was.
These days most batteries come charged.
That said it does sound like you got a demo model. One by one the penguins are slowly stealing my sanity.0 -
Just go in and ask for a refund or if you want a replacement ask for 1 that is sealed with the tape.0

Went for the replacement, their warehouse don't have any in stock. Checked it all out, no marks, no wear, exif data showed it had taken less than 10 photos.Everything in the box was completely sealed and it was clear all that had been opened was the battery and the camera itself. Plus, best of all the first camera had SEVERE lens creep, so was probably faulty anyway. This new one doesn't. Overall, quite pleased. Will test it out a bit to make sure everything is ok but from what I could see, it's practically new0

Plus getting a refund would be problematic because it was bought on credit card. Given that's nearly at its limit and I'd probably have to wait ages for
The refund to be applied, I'd have to wait even longer to
Buy a new one0 -
In fairness on the battery front, lithium ion batteries should be sold part-charged - deep discharge or overcharge are hard on LiIon, the best way to store them is part-charged.
But the 100 pics is still out of order.0
