i was not aware of any charges due untill the 2nd - as in the usual letter they send advising of charges has not been sent , if i had have gotten this letter then i would have left money in there to cover them as i would always do , the first i knew of the chages was when logging in on the 2nd however they have re jigged the transactions now to say thay took it on the 1st, i am no longer in an od situation as i have paid off the charges as soon as i found out but the point being is they can still charge me for what they now call guarenteed payments basically my money i spent because i was not expecting charges .Can you explain this again? So far I have understood:- There were charges that were due on the 1st.
- They took them on the 2nd.
- You withdrew some money on the 1st because you noticed the charges had not been taken
- You now are in an overdraft situation

OK, so seems your issue is that your bank did not notify you about charges until after those charges were due.
This would obviously be a serious issue, and you should be clarifying with them asap- why this happened and
- what they will do to prevent this from happening again

Were you notified via your banks internet banking service of the charges ? I get notification of charges this way, i don't get paper statements any more.0 -
I too have been shocked by the comments on here. I think the majority of the posters here are passionate about saving money and examining terms and conditions so they don't get caught out and end up giving banks their hard earned cash - good for them I say. Sadly however, I don't know many 19 yr olds who share this passion and they are vulnerable to organisations such as banks who will make money off them wherever they can.
Rubbish!
If you are old enough to sit A-Levels and make life changing decisions about going to University then you are old enough to read Terms and Conditions that you are agreeing to be bound to.
Do you think the OP's sister's University would be keen to help her if she said "Sorry I failed the exam, I didn't actually READ the question paper" or "Sorry I cheated - I didn't know that it wasn't allowed as I never read the University's rules".
Doubtful somehow.0 -
You forget that in 2012 the words vulnerable, naive, stupid and irresponsible can all be interchangeable, and that being able to go to 'Uni' doesn't mean that you are clever. It just means you were able to regurgitate the curriculum. As for teaching finance in schools, who would have expected that being able to count was not enough to understand how interest works or an overdraft works, although admittedly you do also have to actually read the terms of your account. Do schools really have to teach people how to function as human beings? This particular 19 year old is nothing more than an idiot, who apparently can be trusted to embark on a course with tuition fees, unless she is getting them paid for her or doesn't understand that either.
You also don't realise that despite banks being highly automated, they apparently also have specialised teams trawling through client lists looking for 'vulnerable' people whose accounts they can deliberately manipulate in order to get some charges out of them. I mean who would expect they would levy charges as per their terms, and continue this until you paid them back. The mind boggles.0 -

Nail head, meet hammer.
Utterly, utterly tired of a wilful ignorance of one's own finances being called "vulnerability".urs sinserly,

Laziness perhaps. Easier than learning to budget and take personal responsibility.0 -

Tell her thank you for her stupidity from me.
As others said, she ignored lettes thought 'f u' to the bank.. and the only one 'laughing' is the bank who has made money off her.
