Is this a way for some people to make more money?

I bought a vintage knitting pattern the other day - it was one I have been looking for for ages. I opted to receive this on a cd. Arrived today. Postage 60p and one cd (probably no more than 10p). Cost to me was £2.75. I think in future I would rather pay a BIN price plus postage.

I did however, give seller good feedback as she posted it right away and the quality is reasonable.

Free P&P is the way to make sure you have an automatic 5 stars.

There can be other advantages too, for example it's more difficult for buyers to state they have overpaid postage compared to the stamp price.

I used to charge actual postage but have had to switch to free postage to get my stars back up.

Problem with that is not only do PayPal take their cut of the postage money, so do ebay!

So if I want to do the equivalent of a 99p starting bid plus postage, I'm looking at £4 (I use courier services £2.90 for the most part, don't find the PO very competitive for the kind of thing I sell) before I've even taken fees into account. :(

So would £2.15 for the item & 60p p&P make you happier?
Or do you think that a seller should only charge the 10p for the CD & the actual postage?

The patterns are probably freely available on the net, But most people are too lazy to look and willingly pay a few £ for them.

There will be a knitting website, Saying look another buyer ripped off buying our free patterns.

Or its a scan of an old pattern so your not the owner of illegally copied material.

Please hand yourself in to the local police station and insist you get at least 20 years.

Good job your not in the US, The claim will be many many thousands of $ :)

Now you know what sells, Start making your own :)

Which courier do you use to get a rate of £2.90 ? Are you sending thousands of items per day?

But surely you understand that this is how business works? The seller isn't going to think "Oh, this will cost 60p postage + 10p for a cd, so I'll sell it for 70p". The seller is going to sell it for MORE than 70p to make what is termed a PROFIT.
