8yr old debt from CABOT what do i do...

Options
hello
i hope you could help me. i had a letter today from a debt collector as my debt has been passed to them. this debt is from CABOT FORMERLY CREATION for £104 so i emailed them and unfortunately i have confirmed my details(before i researched) and they have replyed and said it is a store card account for etam....they have given me an account number but its an account i held 10 years ago and closed 8 years ago or so i thought i had...as far as im aware i have never had any letters through since then and i have no proof of the account.... i never get any form of credit cards or loans or store cards i dont even have an overdraft, and i own my car outright. as far as im aware i cleared all money owed on the card but im guessing these CABOT are digging up old things we barely remember... what can i do and where do i stand!!

If you've not paid them or acknowledged them in 6 years, write back to them telling them to sod off. It'll be statute barred which means they can do jack-all about it.

I'm sure someone will be along with a link or a template soon.

    Relax.

What is it with this company, as I am sure you are not the first person on here recently who is being chased for a debt which appears to be statute barred.

Looks like CABOT have purchased a load of statute barred debt (probably for about 2p in the pound) :

Its statute barred, do not acknowledge any responsibility and there is nothing they can do ;)

Won't telling them you have no knowledge and asking for more info make it look like fraud? And maybe you get a CIFAS Marker? Just ignore their letters, If they phone, Phone your phone provider and have their number barred from calling you.

Nothing they can do anyway if it's statute barred. Once barred, any acknowledgement or payment cannot "unbar" it.
