Car insurance NCB v claim free driving

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone would be able to help . I have asked my insurance company to pass on my NCB they are saying to me that i only sent them 5 years proof of "claim free driving" .... so that they will not pass on my NCB and when my policy ends they will give me the 1 yr that i was with them .

I dont understand is that not proof of NCB? we have never had this problem before .

What is the difference between NO claims bonus and claim free driving ?

You never had any NCB (presumably you had been driving as a named driver on someone else's policy??)

You only get NCB by earning it - each year you buy a policy and make no claim your NCB increases by a year.

You appear to have bought a policy a year ago, thus you now have 1 years NCB.

Claims history and NCD are two totally separate things.

One is literally, how many years you've had driving without making a claim.

The other is a thing thats subjective to terms and conditions, if you are a policyholder or not and also if you buy NCD Protection etc.

It can be you have made a claim this year but still have 30 years NCD because you had protection. Likewise you could have 30 years of claims free history but only have 1 years NCD because it was only last year that you switched from being a named driver to a policyholder.

Your renewal notice will typically state what your NCD is as part of the schedule

Did you have proof of claim free driving from a previous insurer as a named driver, or company car. If so, you appear to be stung by the insurer keeping that, and only sending proof of ncd you have earned with them. Assuming you sent them the original, ask them for a copy back, confirming they accepted it as a proof of claim fee driving for the period. Post back if you have any problem.

    Hi ,

Thanks for the replies .Sorry i should have been a little clearer it is my partners policy yes i am a named driver but it is him who is trying to use his no claims on his new policy ( all in his name)

We was charged accordingly by are previous insurer for 5 years but they are saying that they under charged us and that we never sent them a cert but we did either way that policy is now over and they are agreeing to send us 1 year and another is sending us 2 .

Another question. Can i sign over my no claims to him ? i am sure i read that somewhere i can .

My new insurance company keeps denying im sending them post even thou its recorded so i dont have much trust in them at all .

So he has never made a claim

he has actually been driving 8 years

and hes never been a named driver .

I May have to just live with having 3 years :/ im heavily pregnant he works long hours and im loosing my head lol

lesson learned to ask for all copies back !

NCD is a fairly restrictive thing. You cannot use it on more than one policy at a time, if you have two vehicles and get two NCDs you cannot subsequently merge them if you decide to just have 1 car, its not transferable between people etc.

You cannot pass your NCD to him but if you have more NCD than him and both of you will be on the policy you can put the policy in your name and just declare him as the main driver (you cannot do this on many insurers websites but can if you call them - by default most insurer websites have the policyholder as the main driver)
