Australia, emigration.

We're thinking of emigrating in a few years and are trying to research the areas, anyone know anything about Brisbane, ie house prices, lifestyles etc

Have a gander at https://www.realestate.com.au for houses. Not sure on what area tbh, I'm a Melbourne gal! Also, https://www.immi.gov.au has heaps of info regarding visa apps etc.

Also, https://www.britishexpats.com is a great website. It has an aussie forum, so you can get lots of info from others doing/have done the same as you.

  • Brisbane is amazing!! They call it Bris-vegas due to the how much fun it is. Probably my fav city in australia.

IMO stay clear of western australia (ie perth) there really is nothing there.

We're Brissie expats ... was there anything specific you wanted to know?

Not quite sure what to say about lifestyle without knowing you - depends what you like/are interested in, I guess. We found it a good place to live - one of those places that is comfortable without being on the tourist trail. It's got a reputation for being like a big country town - not as laid back as a country town but not as intense as a city; reasonable infrastructure (except water, see below), a good selection of parks, cafes/restaurants, shopping malls, markets, sports, beaches less than an hour's drive away.

House prices have jumped a lot in the last few years, but again, depends what you're comparing it to, and which areas you're looking at. Lottee's suggestion of the real estate website is a good one, and we can help if you want to know more about specific areas. Feel free to pm us if you've got questions, and we'd be happy to help with what we can.

We occasionally think about going back, but would prefer to wait till the drought breaks, and it's been six years now. Talking to our families in Brisbane, they're currently restricted to 140l (about 10 buckets) of water per person per day - drinking, showering, using the toilet, washing clothes and dishes; forget the garden, lawn and car! ... which is not a lot!

Do ask if there is anything particular you'd like to know.
