Tax office!!!!!!

The tax office are really at it.
After sending me a bill for underpiad tax of around £1500 they demanded payment within 3 weeks. I was told I must pay up. So I did butcountered with money they owed me. After 4 months they finally acknowledged the letter and after another 3 months refunded me.
Sadly they forgot to recalculate my tax code. So after another 2x 50 min phone calls they have finally admitted that they are wrong. But it will be at least another month before I will get the correct code.
In the meantime I have once again underpaid tax which they want back in 3 weeks again. I once again countered that they owe me money. After much humming and hawing they have finally admitted I have overpaid but it will be at least another 3 months before I get any money back!!!!
This has now been ongoing for 2 years!!
Why is it when they think you owe them money they give you 3 weeks but when they owe you money it can be just under a year!!!!!!

It depends really. When I asked to get tax back from previous tax year, I had the cheque within a month of sending the letter out. I need to send them another letter now for previous tax year now. Wonder how long it'll take this time to get my tax back!0
