Wow thanks again for all the responses, really appreiciate it. Ive been driving myself batty, trying to solve it. Wish I had come on here sooner. The sky box is Amstrad model number a2p0802 version 4f2118 and yes she has some wireless headphones already. that are Thomson WHP3001BK. Though if you think they are no good, she will change them, no bother. Thanks!
Edit, can I just ask also please, she has one of them wireless AV sender things. ('Qose 5.8Ghz Wireless Video sender and reciever')
That sends the sky picture to the tv in her bedroom. Would that set up still work in her bedroom. eg her listening to via the headphones, and someone listening normal. Even though the sky box, is not actually in her bedroom. Just this AV sender thing.0 -
Ok, so it looks as if it is really simple then. You can get a scart to composite cable which will have a red, white and yellow phono connection. Plug the scart end into the scart box and put the red and white into the corresponding sockets at the back of the headphone base station. Job done0

The headphone base station has Left and Right phono inputs on the back.
Connect the Left and Right Audio Outputs from the Sky box (similar red & white sockets) with a Twin Phono Lead to the Inputs on the base station.
Flatmate can control her volume on the headphones themselves, you control speakers with TV remote.

What googler said.
(Btw, Samsung are idiots. Using the headphone socket on my Sammy LED TV disables all EQ and sound profile options, so I emailed them to ask why. Their explanation? "Also when on headphone mode, you are unable to adjust the settings of the EQ and sound profile as it is unlikely the headphones will support different features other than Standard.")There's love in this world for everyone. If you don't mind cable across the lounge, all you need is a 5m to 10m twin phono lead coming out of the Sky box, a headphone amplifier to sit next to flatmate's chair, and a pair of standard headphones.
You Ndon't necessarily need wireless headphones (but assume you have them already)
Post the model number of the Sky box and the type of headphones you're using...
Hi there, maybe I'm missing something obvious with all the techie stuff, but I have Sennheiser wireless headphones (less expensive varieties are available), and my partner can listen to tv at his volume, and I can listen to the same tv on my headphones at the same time.
I have mild hearing loss from meningitis, so this set up is perfect for us.0 -
THANK YOU SO MUCH for all advice. I cant tell you how grateful I am. It has been driving me mad, trying to find out the answer on google. And hitting a brick wall .So pleased to have found a solution to our problem0

...connected to?
Without telling us what the TV setup is, whether there's a digibox involved etc., that doesn't really help the OP, wouldn't you say?
Ok your Highness...! receiver and rechargeable battery pack plugs into digibox. It's not Sky but same set up. Headphones have 100 m range. Great when you really have to go to the loo. But then I can pause and play if I remember!
I'm just a girl, so even though I managed to set it up by following the instructions on the headphones box, there might be some other important info I neglected to reveal. No other devices attached to tv except DVD player. There is a similar set up to sky+box for recording.
The best is I can listen on headphones, and Nyone else can listen at the room volume of their choice simultaneously.0
