Any Thoughts On Ernest Jones' Rings/Quality? I'm Panicking

Options
It's my sister's 40th soon and I've been assigned the task of getting sis a special present.

So, on ebay I managed to get a channel set 18ct gold half-eternity ring for her, which I think she'll love.

All happy and the seller is very sweet, saying she'll wrap it up extra nicely :)

Anyway, I do some idle surfing after the purchase and read to my absolute horror, people's reviews of their goods. Not just one or two scathing reviews..they're EVERYWHERE.

Reading through these and appalled imagining I'll get a ring that goes bent/discoloured/has diamonds falling out within months.

Has anyone got some reassurance for me, or should I tell the ebay seller I'm not interested now? I've emailed asking nicely if she's had any problems with the ring, and explaining why, apologising if I'm sounding rude.

:'-(

Some people are saying the jewellery is similar to stock in Argos (!), that they have a 3 x mark-up, a lot of stuff comes back from resizing/repair worse than before, the jewellery has poor stones/they don't use Palladium in their white gold, some cheap alloy...I could go on and on.

    Is it a private seller?

Forgive my dumb-ness, but you mean, someone with Private Feedback? I can see some of the Feedback, other items are marked Private though.

I read also that Watchdog did a show about them (didn't see it..obviously), think that was about a year ago.

Some are even saying their "platinum" rings are in fact white gold!! Isn't that against the law?!

Even if it's the best ring in the world you will always have the nagging thought in the back of your mind that it's junk. If you can get out of the contract I would. I doubt you'll ever be happy with this ring!

I know it's only a ring but I'm gutted for my sister...she would be so heartbroken if I got her a lovely ring and it ended up faulty. She's a bit emotionally fragile right now and needs a boost. There's no comeback with ebay, either, so I'm nervous.

I'll wait and see what the seller says.

Both my engagement ring and wedding ring come from earnest jones and there is nothing wrong with either of them (the engagement ring is at least 5 years old). So I wouldn't worry too much.

My engagement ring's from there - must be a good few years old now... while it's had to go back for insurance-repairs over the years - they've been because I'm flipping horribly unkind to rings and was doing idiotic stuff like lugging cookers around and got my hand trapped between a wall and the cooker and squashed it out of shape... and not due to the quality of it at all (main reason we got the insurance was because we know how badly I treat and damage rings). Considering the design of the ring and the fact it's got a very very narrow band - I was expecting it to have snapped long ago and it's still going strong.

Thanks for the reassurances. It's hard to find a positive spin on things...unless Ernest Jones has provoked lots of angry trolls who are posting everywhere!

The seller was very sympathetic and said it was perfectly fine to ask; she had no problems whatsoever with the ring. It was much less than RRP though I've no idea what to expect after wading through those rants earlier! I could feel myself hyperventilating the more I read!

On a side note, my brother's fiancee worked at EJ for over a year and said she'd never encountered such disgruntled customers. I've no reason to doubt her.

*Shrugs* we shall see, I suppose... :)

PS: Dizziblonde, I see your signature line, I was born two months early too :) Though I'm quite a bit older than your little one. Hope all is well.
