Egg credit card

I had an Egg credit card 8 years ago. I cant really remember when I closed the account. Maybe 6 years ago. I have the card number. I contacted Egg who said Barclaycard bought out the credit card part of the business and to contact them. I contacted Barclaycard who said to contact Egg! I dont even have any printed statements as I done the online statements with them...do I have any chance of locating a transaction I made 8 years ago on this card!??

Why do you need to?

Given the statute of limitations gives 6 years from the date of knowing many will delete records after 7 years.

You could do a SARS request for £10 but if their archiving is only for 7 years or is not in a suitable manor to allow simple recovery then you may not get anything

Not sounding good, is it?
I'm not sure that egg would have been able to provide you with these details from 8 years ago even if they hadn't sold it all to Barclaycard.
When I log in to Barclaycard I can see statements for the past year, including some from when it was still with Egg. But nothing older than that.
So I doubt that anyone would have these details readily to hand. Don't know if companies have a duty to hold this information for a certain number of years. Even if so it might cost quite a bit to get them to actually give you the info.
