surveys

Hi there,

Can anyone tell me what a surveyor looks for when he surveys a house under a normal survey, and a structural survey.

Thanks

Jackie

If you're needing a mortgage, than there's a survey done by the lender which basically determines if the house is worth the price.

A homebuyers report is a form from the royal institute of chartered surveyors and whilst the elements of the property are inspected, the report detail is less than a full structural survey which can take several hours to prepare and will detail problems and estimate the cost of rectifying any big problems like rewiring or putting a new roof on etc. Some recommend the full one if you can see problems yourself or if the house is quite old.
