Time frame for exchange

Hi,
Our chain is complete, and I am interested in an estimate how long it would take until we exchange and more importantly move.
Its a fairly short chain with a FTB at one end, then our buyer, Us, and then a chain free property at the other end.
Some more info: The chain below us started the process 2 weeks ago (valuations done for both), our mortgage has been arranged and I just need to sign the papers (then a survey will be arranged) and our solicitors were instructed to process today.
Assuming everything is straight forward, how many weeks do you think this will take? I rang the solicitors today and they said 8-10 weeks (which I suspect is a standard conservative reply)..
Does anybody have a rough time frame for the above?

It's hard to say really. Most chains don't complete in less than 8 weeks from the sale being agreed. We're currently waiting for a completion date for our purchase, we're just sitting around with the money waiting for the people above to get themselves ready! To cut a long story short, each chain is different so there's no way of knowing! 8-10 weeks from agreeing the sale is probably a fair estimate though.0

I've bought & sold a few times & lucky enough never been involved in a real chain situation. It's always taken approx 12-14 weeks from offer to completion in my experience. The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.
I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.0 -
8-10 weeks sounds right anyway but as the solicitors said this, I think that's the time frame to go on.0
