In trouble > travel insurance with cured cancer

In trouble with quotes for travel insurance. I'm 79 with recent successful treatment for stage 1 Bowel cancer.

Best quote so far is £650 single trip and £4200 annual cover.

I fear I wont be able to travel abroad ever again.

Any help appreciated

Where do you want to go? Your EHIC gives you good coverage within Europe and signed on countries.
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..

If you have had surgery then it is likely that your premiums will remain 'extra' loaded (as opposed to normal loading) for between threee and six months following the surgery; following this period of time the premiums should hopefully drop to a more normally loaded figure.

My second piece of advice is to shop around and then shop around some more. A few years ago I received quotes from between £400-£1200 for single trip insurance (to Sri Lanka). After deciding to shop around again once more 'just in case' I managed to reduce it to just over £200.

Some insurers either won't cover cancer at all or charge ridiculously high loading even years after the event.

I speak from personal experience in the above two matters.

Have you actually booked yet? If not I would delay if possible and get further quotes for insurance at the 3 month and 6 month post surgery dates and then arrange your trip accordingly.

In addition, sadly, your age will also probably count against you in the great scheme of things.

Bear with me and I will search through my previous posts for further information that you may find helpful.

The point I was trying to make is that different insurers can use different medical screening agencies and the perception of risk from each agency and therefore the amount of premium loading can and will vary. Not only that, by trying different brokers, as I did, you may find that the premium could reduce despite the fact that they use the same medical screening agency that had previously required very heavy loading or refused cover completely.

I hope all of that that makes sense; finding affordable travel insurance with PEMCs can be a (very costly) minefield but it is worth persevering and shopping around as much as you can! :)

I wouldnt worry too much about repatriation. I have had experience of the Spanish health service and found it to be very good indeed. The key thing to remember when seeking medical attention in Spain is to deal with the municipal hospital/medical facility and NOT the many private clinics which look a bit like official hospitals but which are there really to fleece tourists and their insurance companies.

See here and have a good holiday..

I posted this before on another thread but thought it might be useful. I am sure it is costing us about £100!

Try these people, we have got a great deal for July in Majorca and my wife sadly has terminal cancer.
We were given this website by a mcmillan nurse and she was right they do appear to be reasonable.
