New bank account but not switching
Poogles
I am looking to set up a new bank account that comes with a debit card (& no charges!). Basically, I want to keep my current account with all the direct debits etc that go out & set up a new account for day to day spending. I plan to transfer a certain amount of my salary into this day to day account to cover supermarket runs, petrol, other shopping etc. Once all my bills are paid, any money left over (in my main account) will then get moved to a savings account. I'm hoping that this will allow me to save a bit more as I will only have a certain amount of money for day to day use (I think I do tend to 'waste' money on bits & pieces).
All the accounts I've looked at want me to transfer direct debits but I don't want to do this. Any ideas/recommendations?

You should be able to just open a new current account without using the switching service?
Unless you're trying to open an account with benefits? Then they may require you to switch I suppose.LBM 24/05/2012 :TAugust NSD 10/12 * £2 savers0 -
All banks would like to have your entire business but none of them can make a switch, and/or having direct debits and standing orders, a mandatory condition of opening a current account.
Just ignore the offers/"requests" for switching.
Of course, if you want to apply for an account with an account opening bonus, things might look different. The bank might only pay the bonus if you use their switcher service. But you can open the account without wanting the bonus, and therefore not needing to use the switcher service.0 -
Thanks all. Not too bothered about opening bonuses - just thing this might be a good way of keeping track on my spending!0

If you're wanting to keep track of spending Lloyds TSB have a little pie chart thing on their internet banking which shows where your money is being spent
