I left my laptop on a train yesterday (my two month old laptop
) It was password protected, but was wondering how easy that is to bypass? There is nothing dodgy on it but all my passwords for various things are saved trying to rack my brains to think whats on there. But I guess my question is the admininstration password easy to bypass as if its no good to anyone else I'm praying they will hand it in.

Hello mate and am sorry you lost your lappy.
To answer your question, it depends who's hands it ends up in and how good their pc skills are!
A password can be bypassed very easily on any Windows based pc if you know what you are doing.
A fix a lot of pc's and ave reset a lot of passwords for people..
Also be aware that they can access files by booting a live disc from the dvd tray or usb pen without having to bypass a password.
My advice would be to get access to another pc and start changing your passwords "now"..0 -
Thanks I thought it was wishful thinking!
Have changed most of them already but its hard to remember all the sites that I login to! Just glad its insured.

Just change as many as you can remember, so this'd be things like ebay, paypal, amazon (shopping sites that may or may not auto save card/house details). Bank sites, any savings/credit cards etc outside regular banks. You want things like social sites, facebook, google+, twitter etc.
Anything else, if you come across in the future (if you haven't already) just change for extra security. (which we all should do regularly anyway)0 -
If by 'saved' passwords, you mean they're in a folder, or document called 'My Passwords', then all someone has to do is take the hard drive out of the laptop, load it into a USB caddy and browse its contents. The Operating System password is only effective when you boot up the OS on the disc.
If the passwords are saved under the 'have Windows remember my password' for websites, then they may be slightly more difficult to find, but still reachable.
Hopefully some honest soul will have handed your laptop to the rail operator's lost property section.0 -
Don't forget to change your email passwords too. Last thing you want is to go changing all the other passwords to have someone login to your email and see the confirmation of your changes.0
