Refund Help

Hi all,

My father-in-law bought a 32GB iPod on Monday from Asda. When he got home and switched it on, it already had a user profile set up. Upon further inspection the item had music and photos on it as well. It was also the 8GB version!

When returning the item to the store Asda refused to provide a refund (even after speaking with the manager) as they assumed he was attempting to return a used iPod of his own. They said he should take up his concerns with Apple.

Where does he stand with this. He has made a contract with Asda by buying the item surely they can't refuse a refund?

Your help will be much appreciated.

This is the nightmare scenario. Your contract is with Asda and nothing to do with Apple so that is a red herring. You need to go back and speak to the manager and the escalate as necessary.

I once was posting a camera to Italy but fortunately decide the box was too light when I got to PO and took it home.......no camera in box. I can just imagine how that argument would have gone when the lady in Italy claimed an empty box.

    Good luck.

Hintza is absolutely right - you need to make noise with Asda, not Apple.

Is there ANYTHING on the 8 GB iPod which links to a user clearly not your relative?

Also IF someone were attempting to 'con' Asda out of an i pod surely they would keep to the same type - I mean (your argument for Asda) what IDIOT would try to pass off a 8 GB one as a 32 GB?

as has been said, your argument is with Asda - they didn't sell you the goods you (well your FiL) purchased. If they are adamant that the switch couldn't have happened in their warehouse/store then THEY need to take it up with Apple.

  • take photos of the product and receipt, explain the situation by calling asda on 0800 952 0101. arrange on the phone to go on at an agreed time to give it back and get the right one.

if this does not work, i suggest you go to your local paper.

Wouldn't the serial number on the ipod show up on asda's system as already being sold or even returned to store for a refund ?

Oh for goodness sake why can't people have abit of common sense and try - before they post - to imagine how it looks to Asda

As far as Asda is concerned someone has tried to return an item which has been a) used and b) different specification

So what's to stop someone buying and receiving a 32GB ipod and then trying to return a 8GB saying it was given to them in error?

Personally I would take it as high as I could go as it sounds like the manager has already been involved.
