opodo / iberia part of return fliht cancelled - rights.

I have just found out that Ibera have canceled part of my return journey from Glasgow to Isreal. We fly out on the 7th june via Madrid and back on the 17/18th. (overnight stay in madrid)
The flight from Mardid to glasgow has been moved to the Thursday, no good to us as we are back at work on the Wednesday / requires extra cash hotels/food.

When my flights with ryanair the other month changed I was able to cancel and rebook elsewhere.

Should Opodo/iberia have to refund My full booking(so I can book elsewhere) or book me a different flight to glasgow on the 18th?

Also how should opodo inform me of this change, I have had to calls/letters, just noticed a spam mail on the 24th stating they must know by the 28th. Im sure I read that they must use a means of contact that is confirmed?

The stupid thing is I have been on their website a few times of the past few days (after the change on the 24th) checking the flight time to book parking and see when i can check in and it still states the flights are on the 17/18th!

Many thanks, any info would help for when I call this morning

You have a choice of either a refund or for the airline to re-route you on alternative flights.

Do some checking of other flights before you call IB/Opodo so that you are best placed to decide what might be acceptable as a refund at this stage might lead to you having to pay significantly more for your flights, whereas teh airline must re-route you at no additional cost.

Law governing these situations is EC 261/2004:http://eur-lex.europa.eu/LexUriServ/LexUriServ.do?uri=CELEX:32004R0261:EN:HTML

    Articles 5 and 8 specifically.

There are only 2 flights a week from Madrid to Glasgow, it probably wasn't a good route to choose in the first place, although it may have been the cheapest. A good travel agent would have offered routes with daily flights and I suspect that Opodo's booking conditions say your contract is with Iberia so it will have to be either one of the two weekly flights from Madrid or a refund.

Well iPods were very helpful, they called iberia and asked when my options were. Return flight on mon from tel-aviv not at 6am instead of 5pm. Mad-gwk and gwk to Glasgow on the Monday also. Saves the stay over in madrid for 12hrs.

    Thanks guys
