Hi, this is the Daily Thread for 31st May. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the
Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

Morning :hello:

Rain! Yesssssssss!!!! :D

The shed is looking much better, I threw loads of useless stuff out ssshhhh don't tell mr tru. I found loads of seeds, not sure why they were hidden away. Some are really old but I'm going to plant them anyway, you never know. I managed to get loads of scratches on my arms then got covered in dust and dirt so hope I'm not infected with something, lol.

The elderflower champagne smells fab, it's in the hall so you can smell it throughout downstairs.

A friend of a friend has a smallholding, he rang yesterday and invited us over to have a look around :j Hopefully we'll pick up lots of tips.

Miss tru is going to ring HR and if she has no joy she'll try ACAS, her boss insists the 11 hours between shifts rule is just a guideline. Yesterday she got home at 11pm, she was back in at 6am today. Well 6.10am, she left late with no time to eat breakfast.

Morning Tru, I assume you are still typing, hope you are ok

Looks like another nice day here, the mornings start off misty, and then it burns away mid morning.

I made up a packet mix of low carb bread in my mums bread maker last night, it was so nice, so will go out at the weekend to get some bread flour etc, to make a loaf for the others. Mum said I can keep the bread maker as she does not use it any more :T

Dinner tonight for OH and DD is something and chips, I shall have an omlette and a slice of my loaf :D

Need to do a wash tonight, and got my shopping being delivered.

    OK have good days all

Hugs to Hilstep and Hester xx

Raining here at last, hope it remembers to stop! Got an in-service day today at school so no children then it's off to the Hospice for a couple of hours and then home to pack for my trip away. DD and I are off to Strathpeffer tomorrow to see friends for a few days. They have a new puppy so really looking forward to seeing them and having a few days away.

Washing nearly dried on the line yesterday, it's on the airers at the moment to finish off, will do the work stuff later when I get home.

Have a good day, take care. XX

Tru - We've been getting some guidance from ACAS for a work dispute that DH has at the moment, they've been really helpful and friendly. Hope your daughter can get sorted, those are daft hours!

Everywhere else in the county seems to have had rain but not here! My plants and grass would love a drop or three.

Busy day "doing" and finally sat down at 8pm. 8.30pm DD2 came down in tears with boy problems and by the time we'd had a good chat, a good cry (she set me off too) and a good moan about men in general it was nearly 11pm.

Feel a little zombie like this morning So glad it's not to warm. Beds need stripping, should be in the WM by now but I'm waiting for the caffeine to hit.

Going to pop to the local market today and pick up some plants - found lots of rockery stones buried in one corner of the garden yesterday so have unearthed them and will make a feature of them with a few alpines.

Great success in my little poly tunnel, late planting my seeds this year but I've got 15 good strong courgette plants up and 21 peas. The lettuce leaves have all shown themselves and are doing their thing too.

Tea tonight will be a cauli-broccoli and bacon pasta bake with lots of yummy cheese sauce. Really fancied it last night but needed to use some YS mince so made burgers with hHM coleslaw and roasted baby new potatoes which was lovely.

Hope you all have a great day.

    Morning everyone

Love and hugs to those that are having a hard/sad time at the moment x

Dull and overcast here this morning, temperature dropped dramatically too. DH up and off to work stupid early.

Dinner last night was chicken breast pieces, didn't get chance to make them into casserole etc, so they were just cooked in gravy as Parents evening was running late. Served the chicken with mash, veg and gravy, ice-cream for those that wanted it for dessert. Not sure what we're having tonight, will organise that later, but I'm going to the bank, then food shopping this morning as DH has a day off tomorrow - we'll be taking the caravan to the site (which is now only 20 mins away) in the morning, getting set up then coming home, I will go back taking the boys with me after they come out of school and DH will stay at home as he's going to work Saturday morning - he will then join us Saturday once he's finished. We were supposed to be going away tomorrow to a rally 2-3 hours away but the rally was cancelled due to the site being flooded, so we're going to an alternative rally that is only a short drive away.

I have all the normal chores to do this morning, once I've done food shopping, I desperately need to get the ironing done, although washing basket is nearly clear as I've been making use of good weather and washing and drying at least one load a day. Need to pack, do housework, do some baking etc (the tins have been empty for a couple of weeks now - menfolk not happy! - will just do the best I can.

Parents evening established what I already knew, good lad generally but doesn't put any enough effort in to maximise his potential - he's not wow wow academic but he's certainly not stupid either - school doesn't really help as they were in special measures and are supposed to be improving but there seems to be a huge turnover of staff - last night I met teachers that I've never met before and they are new to the school - surely it's common sense that those in exam years need consistent good quality teaching?! I know all students in all years deserve the best teaching but surely it's imperative in those last two exam years?!

Remember the sunscreen if you're going to be out in the sun x

Hugs to those that want/need them, keep safe and well x

Oh they're definitely wrong. Miss tru has taken in print-outs from the Directgov and HSE websites, and they still insist it should only be 8 hours between shifts. She's not even getting that sometimes though. The shifts change every week (she knew that when she started), they've upped her contract from 10 to 20 hours per week (she's always given more than that, the most she's worked in a week is 42 hours) and given her a pay rise. But when they work out the shifts, everyone seems to get a few days with loads of hours, then 3 or 4 days off. She'll write down her hours and they'll change them without telling her. We're not talking about a new small business that might still be finding it's feet (that's excusable for a short period of time, IMO), she works for Lidl.

    Morning everyone,

Hugs to Hester, Hilstep, Molly and LW.

Tru hope that your DD gets things sorted out.

Leaving assembly for our year 11s this morning. I have to make a short speech about my tutor group and I am feeling very nervous!
I am very sorry to see them go as I have been their tutor for 4 years and I have really seen them grow up.

Didn't get any packing done yesterday, need to try harder tonight or I am going to end up in Devon with just the clothes that I am standing up in!

Have no idea what is for tea tonight.

    Have a lovely day everyone.:)

    Good morning Tru and all,

Poor Miss tru. The thing is with employers of today they dont want to take on staff but they want to the ones they have to work their socks off to make up for the absence of staff. I dont care what anyone says, some employers are using this recession to their own advantage and people are so scared of losing their jobs they put up with it.

Anyway, those are just my observations, probably wouldnt stand up in court but there you go. :D

I'm not sure what i am going to do with myself today. I'm on top of the housework. I might have a go and dig up those manky bushes in the garden (if i can get into the shed) and i might write a few lists.

Have a good day all :-)

    Good morning and hugs all.

bargain bird  bit short notice. How about a quick card crown and a cape with some fake fur around the colour and crown? Do that many people really recognise each royal on site? Or a ginger wig and nazi outfit for H :rotfl:

I'm off to town in a bit, was going to walk but it's wet and I'm nackered so bus it is! My lecturer has advised me to shorten my dissertation and submit it to a publication so that's a task for this week, along with my OU assignment, going through junk and sorting out a table top.
