The People's Power switch
It's probably been mentioned before but I couldn't find it so sorry if it's a duplicate thread!
The big switch was no good to me, and their estimated savings were just a big lie.
Not sure how the huge switch is gonna work out - their estimated saving for me was £3 per year, a lot more accurate than the big switcch, and I'd get £50 cashback too but I might lose my £100 annual direct debit discount so not worth it.
The People's Power switch is worth looking into though, it seems to be more transparent about profits, will hopefully get more suppliers interested, and give me enough time to switch wthout losing my annal npower discount,

nice one Raphael - I have signed up too - like the ethos of collective switching and being transparent on fees and stuff. Also like that they are trying to help people in fuel poverty and get past people like me who frequently switch providors when I am being ripped off.
Guess most people here just look at the bottom line - how much has this saved me ...
Will be interesting to see what thepeoplespower folks can offer.
Have signed up to Big switch but am suspicious of the calculated savings - and can't get anyone to answer the phone - 28mins:51 secs and counting ... had the same yesterday. Think i will give up on the Big switch when the wait hits 30 mins.0 -
The Big Switch type operation is nothing more than a take the money and run middleman scheme. All they are doing is collect names and addresses, and passing them on.
The utility company still has to do credit check, etc.
I think all that is happening is the usual comparison site commission is £100, and the Big Switch type website undercuts it by £50, which shows up as a saving to the customer. They just collect registrations, which is easy to do.
Next year, they will e-mail every body to get them to switch to company 2, which will net them another commission. They can also use the list for other marketing schemes.
Might as well go through a Cashback site, with similar results.0 -
Pincher - I agree that huge switch / Big switch seem to have a high profit motive.
I was refreshed by the not for profit motive of the peoples power
see http://www.thepeoplespower.co.uk/how_to_get-lower_energy_bill/
+ the stuff they have written about working with housing associations
... that doesn't mean they will get massive savings .. but seems honest to me
and anyway whats wrong with reducing referral fess and getting them back to the consumer - i like that idea!0 -
Anyone remember that not for profit energy company that didn't quite manage to get to market a couple of years ago?

Not forgetting the cheap petrol bloke, what happened to him? That gum you like is coming back in style.0

lol fair enough ...
anyway it hasn't cost me anything so am prepared to give it a go0 -
If it works for you, go for it.
But the collective bargaining so far has proved to be little more efficient than putting your consumption into a comparison site.
Again, as I'll keep saying...the industry isn't set up for large scale switching and there are daily limits on data transfer.:rotfl: It's better to live 1 year as a tiger than a lifetime as a worm...but then, whoever heard of a wormskin rug!!!:rotfl:0 -

I have only just come across peoplepower from a link in my local press. Obviously a bit late!
It sounds like such a good idea, I feel a bit of a fool now I have searched & come across this thread.
I doubt there will be any recommendations & I just wondered why?
Why would such a good idea not work?0
