I would like to pay Thos Cook for our holiday using a credit card to safeguard my payment but they charge 2.5% which is expensive. Any suggestions?

If you mean you want to pay by credit card for the added purchase protection - you would get exactly the same protection if you only pay a deposit by your credit card. So you could pay £10 by credit card and the rest by cash or debit card - assuming the fees for this are less.
