X-O.co.uk offers a flat rate of trading for £5.95. The service seems reasonable, and there's no account charges ( *yet* ).

The only thing is they don't give you the option to have dividends reinvested, so cash just accumulates in the account. That was why I set up the Interactive Investor account.
    Wishing I hadn't bothered now...

yes, I use x-o for growth shares where the divi is low or non existent or for shares that I might churn a little. For divi paying long term share holdings I have been using iii for the easy and cheap dividend re-investment. For those moving from iii who want the same dividend re investment option for shares then I believe Sharetrade offers this.

I used to findSelftrade excellent but moved a few years back when they started charging the annual fee which they have now removed again for holding shares. From memory, after pressure , they waivedmoving charges in the end .

BBC money box have just called me, they say they have had so many complaints about II so they are looking into it

I was hoping something like this would happen. I also considered going to one of the financial columns/troubleshooters, but they generally look at individual/unique problems.

Some of you appear not to need platforms and should consider basic stockbroking services instead.
    Certificated dealing at Barclays

    - by post 1.5% min £30

    - by phone 1.75% min £25

And a premium on the share price, because it's 10-day settlement.

    Ouch.

Has anyone got a printout of the original charges page where they say that there are no admin fees as this is what they want me to send them?

    thanks

That sounds hopeful - I have some screen prints, from 1 June, showing 0% commission on funds and No fees for admin/inactivity. This was 2 days after they amended their charges!

Ouch... have a look at Lloyd TSB. That what I used for dealing in certificates. You deal online. ;) Commission is £27.50 for any amount of deal (Not entirely sure on that. But that what Rates and Charges for Certificated service tell me) and you get actual share certificates posted to you. Phone deal is £27.50 per deal up to £1000. It then go up until £87.50 for over £10,000.

    Cheers

Now I'm confused. I've just sold a fund and they haven't charged any commission.
