Cost of bathroom installation

Hello,
Just had a quote for installation of my bathroom suite. It's from a sole trader and is as follows:
Removal and disposal of existing bath, basin, toilet and tiles (4 square metres)
Install of bath and mixer shower with screen.
Install WC in same position.
Install basin without pedestal.
Remove existing radiator, and fit 2 chrome heated towel rail in different location.
Neaten pipework in adjoining room where cylinder cupboard was <--- this isn't too involved, hopefully.
Tile 2 wall around bath from bath level to ceiling, and 1 other wall to window level.
I am supplying the suite and the tiles. The plumber is supplying grout adhesive, and any other materials required such as pipe and fittings etc. The bathroom is quite big, it's 7 foot by 12 foot.
The total quote is £1600 for labour and materials. What do you think? Sound about right?
Thanks for any comments.
PS i'm in the east midlands.

im a tiler and that seems very expensive to me, im in burton on trent and I charge £250 to swap a bathroom suite. and your looking at £130 worth of tiling inclusive of adhesive and grout. £30 for moving the radiator. Are you supplying the rad or is the plumber? If he is then you are looking at an extra £100. Allowing for bits n bobs for tidying up the other pipework, I would charge £550 and would do it in 2 days.
Get a few more tradesman round and ask them for an itemised quote.
Hope that helps

Wow you are so cheap,if you are good and I do not know any tilers who are good plumbers I would like to place you on permenent contract ,I could make a fortune.
£30 for moving a radiator ,where to,the chemicals in the heating system header tank on refilling cost that, and pipework and valves .
No mention of the shower screen or is it tank fed ,electrical, the original quote has seen the job.
What would your hourly rate be?To be happy you need to make someone happy.0 -
it goes without saying that the other guy has seen the job and that there will be certain things that will alter the price but not by £1000. It also says mixer shower, not an electric shower. I do apologise that i missed the screen add another £100 depending on what scren you would like of course. Alot of plumbers make out the plumbing is some kind of mystical black art that only those worthy have mastered and because of that it gives them a right to charge alot of money for relatively easy tasks . In reality plumbing is one of the easiest things to do.0

Without seeing the job and having more details I am reluctant to give figures but I have added several comments:
May need a skip and permit - could cost £120-£150 just for that.benjamin31 wrote: »Hello,

and hope it doesn't need some £200+ frame :eek:benjamin31 wrote: »Install of bath and mixer shower with screen.

Could be a complete pain. We don't know if you have concrete floors for instance. As Kenshaz says you could use £30+ of chemicals re-proofing the CH system. Draining down or part draining could move all the crud around the system and cause problems.benjamin31 wrote: »Remove existing radiator, and fit 2 chrome heated towel rail in different location.
I note Dry_Flood reckons on being able to do this for £130 including adhesive. I think you could spend £130 just on adhesive, grout and waterproofing for the shower. Anyone bothering to do any waterproofing for the shower?benjamin31 wrote: ».......Tile 2 wall around bath from bath level to ceiling, and 1 other wall to window level.......
That will be why I spend a significant proportion of my time putting their work right. I would rather take my time and do a proper job than some of the "bodge it and scarper" work that has been thrown in, in as short a timeframe as possible, that I have been called in to sort out.Alot of plumbers make out the plumbing is some kind of mystical black art that only those worthy have mastered and because of that it gives them a right to charge alot of money for relatively easy tasks . Those are my principles. If you don't like them, I have others.
I have writer's block - I can't begin to tell you about it.
You told me again you preferred handsome men but for me you would make an exception.

I agree with bob property. My husband (corgi plumber) would probably charge between £900 - £1200 for the works as far as i can tell from the description.0

Corgi is a gas fitter .Did you give the estimate or was it your husband, because you state as far as I can see.I agree with bob property. My husband (corgi plumber) would probably charge between £900 - £1200 for the works as far as i can tell from the description.
I know some gas fitters that could fit a gas fire safely ,but I would not trust them with a toilet.
I think we all agree that the job needs an onsite survey.
Also always get more than one quote. To be happy you need to make someone happy.0 -
I do know that Corgi is gas! He does both plumbing and all types of gas work, as does his father and grandfather. My h read the post and I did the typing.0

I am confused does the £1600 include the suite, if so £1600 all in sounds quite reasonable to me, DH is a fitter and would probably charge £400 -£500for labour only looking at about 3 days minimum, that is to do it properly, yes it probably could be done in less, but it would be a bodge job.0
