Router Netgear question

I have a router netgear DG834Gv2. Recently I thought it would be good to get a spare as a back up. Its always good to have a spare I think.
If I do this and I had to put in a new one, install it I mean, would I have to go into the netgear settings and change everything on there if it was a different router?
If same router as got now how would question above apply to?
I am not up on router settings etc as some one else originally installed it all for me. I have looked into the router page, and had a look as I wish to learn this stuff.

All you need is to [STRIKE]remember[/STRIKE] write down the settings for your ISP , but if you get an exact same router it must have a backup option (usually under maintenance) which saves all to your pc and then restore it on the new one.4.8kWp 12x400W Longhi 9.6 kWh battery Giv-hy 5.0 Inverter, WSW facing Essex . Agree entirely with debitcardmayhem, with the proviso that it is possible that the two routers could be at different firmware levels, and this "might" cause a minor change in the backup files. You would be very unlucky if this was the case, though. Somewhere in the router pages will be information about the firmware level - an interesting "first exercise" for you!0

Later... debitcardmayhem's link shows that the default password is, imaginatively, password

Firmware Version V3.01.25
ADSL Firmware Version 4.01.02.000 -
You type into a browser address box http://192.168.0.1 and press Enter. The user name is admin and the default password is either setup or password. If someone has worked on the router before, it is highly likely that this password has been changed, and you would need to get it from off of him. Once you have logged in as Administrator, it's just a matter of clicking on all the menu items at the left-hand side.Ladywriter1968 wrote: »Firmware Version V3.01.25

Actually I've thought of a problem you would get, because you can't install the two routers on the same network, because both would be fighting over the same IP address 192.168.0.1 !
Overcoming this problem might be somewhat difficult, but it would involve (temporarily) changing the IP address of the newer router... Perhaps leave this second router until you become familiar with all the configured admin pages of the original?0 -
