Comet very disappointing

My LG plasma is 6 weeks out of warranty and won't switch on, ok I didn't buy an extended warranty, I expect to pay something for a repair, so I contact comet.
They say to me "its out of warranty and as we have to put our warranty customers first we are unable to repair your TV even for a fee.
I emailed there customer service and said this wasn't good enough having been a loyal customer and thought comet sold quality, and was told,
" Your appliance has been working for roughly 14 months, as this is the case we feel that it was of satisfactory quality when you purchased it and therefore will not repair it free of charge."

I said I was very disappointed and 6 weeks out of warranty does not reflect quality. However I'd pay for the repair, to which I got this response,
"After investigating your issue further I have been advised that whilst Comet offer out of warranty repairs on many appliances, our service team are unable to do so for LG appliances at the time of writing. This is because we are unable to source any parts from LG to complete any potential repairs."
Well how do they fix TV's in warranty then. I looked myself and you can order parts off the internet.
All in all and am very disappointed with comet, this service is disgraceful, I spent £699 on a TV is it too much to expect 3 years trouble free? My last TV lasted 10 years!! didn't need an extended warranty
If comet cared a jot about their customers and repeat business they would make at effort and also stop charging customers 10p a minute to phone the service line.

  • Have you read the FAQs? you have rights under the Sale of Goods Act.
    Thinking critically since 1996....
  • Hi Thanks for that, I have read them, I see I have a right to complain to complain as I don't believe it has lasted a reasonable time, this also explained why they use the term "satisfactory quality.

If I'm missing something or anyone has had any joy getting something like this sorted out please help.

The annoying thing is they told me when I phoned it was a power supply problem, so they know these TV's go wrong, but if has lasted 12 months and you haven't taken out the rip off warranty they feel they can say tough.

I spoke to LG who put me on to D & G who tried to get me to take out a £404 policy to repair it and cover it for 12 months, though they couldn't tell me when they could repair it, until I'd paid up.

you need to get an independent report done that says its an inherent fault that's the only way you will make comet do anything

Yeah it's worth checking if the fault was inherent, then they have to repair it for free or replace it. But you have to pay to prove this, getting an independent check done.

Is it not worth taking to a tv repair place? Would most likely be cheaper than a comet repair anyway
Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam
  • be wary of comet whatever you do. I would not go there myslef.

This is because the bbc watchdog filmed in their stores selling warranties but making false promises about the warranties.

    It was all secretly filmed.

U can tell them that the sales of goods act should cover an appliance for 6 years.
