It is possible to lay Solid Wood onto concrete?
Had a guy round over weekend to quote on walnut floor through dining room. Half of the room is original house (floorboards), half is the extension (concrete).
He said its not a problem to seal the conrete and the glue the wood down.
Other people i have spoken to said that it should be raised on blocks, or not used at all....
any advise
Thanks

you would need to make sure all the concrete is properly sealed , otherwise your wood will expand and split with any moisture it gets.
other than that i would say its fine.No Unapproved or Personal links in signatures please - FT30 -

as far as i am aware it requires a very specialist glue that allows for movement, recently one supplier has developed this and works great though a tub is about £150+ retail though, bar this the specialist advice is no you need to be sure the wood supplier will warranty this method, we got the glue from our wood supplier so no probs0

Use the recomended membrane for under the floor and just glue the floor together with a pva glue, this would make the floor a floating floor just like a laminate would be, that is ok0

My sister had an oak floor laid over concrete a few months ago.
First of all they laid a DPM, but not a sheet, it was like a tin of black paint/tar painted on the concrete.
Then a special latex glue was used to bond the planks to the floor & allow a bit of movement.
There are tiny expansion gaps left to allow for woods natural movement.
It looks fab, I'm sure yours will too. She bought hers from a local specialist shop, they also sold her the matching skirting. Her nephew who is a carpenter laid it, but the shop did lay them as well.0
