Moving Into Rented - Bother Updating Address?

We are moving into private rented accommodation after we pulled out of our house purchase. We sold our house and have been living with relatives whilst the purchase went through, but as it has now fallen through and it could be at least several more months until we complete on something else, we are moving out into rented.
Regarding our address information, we updated it all with the banks to our relatives address so we could put in the full mortgage application with proof of new address and no gaps in address history. Our mortgage application remains open for a few more months if we find another property, but regardless of that, is it better to just leave everything at our relatives address and rent "off the record" as far as mortgage applications are concerned?
Reasons for doing this that I can think of:
1) Changing address again after a few months is likely to hurt credit score and look messy on applications.
2) Mortgage applications might want a reference off our landlord if they know we have been renting (I think?), which at best would delay the process.
3) I can't think of how the mortgage provider would find a link to our rented address if we kept banks and credit cards at relatives address (apart from maybe insurance?)
4) We trust the relatives with our mail, and a lot more than some landlord who we have never met but will have keys to our home (along with letting agents, potentially previous tenants and workmen, etc etc).
My main concerns against it would be if it counted as fraud (technically could we not have 2 addresses since we would still keep a presence at relatives address?) and the inconvenience of it, i.e. is it worth it if the impact on credit worthiness is negligible. We do like to do things by the book and above board, so if it would be classed as fraud then obviously we'd just move everything over to the rented address.
Any thoughts?
