Barclays on line banking - new system worse than previous one

I have a Barclays online bank account. When I tried to log on today, to ibank.barclays.co.uk, I got a message telling me the security certificate was invalid. I phoned up customer enquiries 0845 number and after a long wait, and a long spiel about upgrading my browser, which was irrelevant to me, got a customer services rep who told me that the URL changed two months ago, when the new system came in and the old one was no longer valid. The customers services rep said I must have not logged in for two months.

This is rubbish, when I did log on, it showed I last logged in, via ibank, on 11 May! Then when I tried to look at my statement, I got an error 65009 and a message to say my statements were inaccessible for technical reasons. The message said I had to phone Customer Services again, when I went through the same rigmarole about browsers, waited in same long queue and got another customer services rep for whom I had to identify myself, and turned out to have no idea what the error code meant or how to fix it. He confided the new system is proving a nightmare for the call centre, with staff rushed off their feet and customers totally confused. They originally said it was more user friendly, now they just say it is more secure. So I logged out and back in and this time it worked.

Now here is my real beef, I wanted to look online at my April statement. No can do. Why not? because I get paper statements each month. If I want to look back online further than a month then I have to give up receiving paper statements. This is crazy. The information is there in the cloud, why can't I access it. I am royally p----d off with Barclays.

so you've ignored the advice on browser versions, rubbed them up the wrong way, got yourself all stressed up, and it's their fault?

BTW what did you do with April's paper copy statement?

(ETA - online banking absolutely no problem here, I use it at least daily. I suspect that only using it every few weeks leads to unfamiliarity and prone to finger trouble)

The advice on browsers was that you needed to be on a version later than IE6 - I am on IE9 - and it took several minutes to tell you this on the phone then put you in a lengthy queue - ten minutes first time, 15 minutes second time 0n an 0845 number.

First time I called they tried to tell me I had not been online for two months which was rubbish, when I eventually got on line it showed I was last online on 11 May. (I have been away overseas for two weeks since then and just got back). The second time I phoned the number given and quoted the code they gave on the screen saying there was a technical fault on my account and went straight back into the same queue again. The call centre worker I eventually spoke to did not know anything about the error message or how to solve it, just said to try logging out and in again - I paid for 15 minutes time on a premium number to be told this.

I do have paper statements at home, but I also travel a lot and like to check my balance on line when I have access to the internet, which is not always the case. I also like to be able to look back more than 30 days to check if bills I incurred abroad, have arrived yet. I do not see why I should have to give up monthly paper statements to have this option. That is the trouble with people who have fixed life styles living in one place and can easily get online and log in and out, is they assume it is the same for everyone else too.

no, you only need to look at the data since you last logged on to see if bills have arrived.

please don't be so presumptious about people whom you have zero knowledge of; having worked in ICT for 40 years (and am well-travelled, thank you) I KNOW how easy it is to get online from practically anywhere in the world.
