Nappies and any other tips?

Hi all
Im pretty new here so just getting to grips with my finances. Im in sooo much debt and am waiting for my credit report to arrive...then the real work begins!
Money is very tight for me and so Ive decided that I need to live as frugal as possible from now on. That way I can make better use of my cash and hopefully get my debts paid off faster.
I have a 15mth old so it will be tough...aaargh!
One way I think I can cut back is with nappies. I always buy pampers because Im wary of no name brand ones.
Can anyone recommend a cheap no name brand nappy that does the job/doesnt leak??
I guess that if I meal plan and make very cheap food in bulk, I can also save that way.
Is it best to just not take any cash out at all and just buy on your card for REAL necessities? I find that if I take a tenner out then it all gets spent very fast....on rubbish!
Just need to think of other ways to save. I work full time and dont really go out. Ive not had my hair done in 8 months. My only must have is to go and get my brows down every few weeks for £4. I really need to do that one otherwise I dont feel human!
I will trawl the threads looking for other tips...
But nappies? Can anyone suggest anything?

Hi there,
I had two in nappies for a while as only 19mth between my tots, it's expensive, isn't it?
I've tried all sorts of nappies, and I think it depends on your baby's shape. I know that's sounds daft but, chunky legs need more room than skinny legs...
I don't like tesco or morrisons ones. Sainsburys, Asda, Aldi and Wilkinson ones all worked for us. My babies are heavy wetters and lucky me they slept through from quite young, but they needed a good nappy. I find the pullup types are better overnight. My boy is 3 so just has a night nappy now, he has a skinny bottom so size 5 pull up from either aldi or wilco. My little girl is 20 mth and just gone to a size 5 too. She's got huggies for daytime, as they were on offer in the big boxes, and she wears the same as her brother on a night.
Really honestly give the own brands a go, they are fine, and I much prefer any of them to pampers personally.
Also, if you go on mysupermarket you can find out what deals, and it tells you the price per nappy, so very easy to compare. Often buying huggies in bulk is as cheap as own brands anyway.
I would have suggested washables, but with working full time and your little one being 15mths it might not be worth the cost and hassle...
You've just reminded me about my eyebrows, eek!Bossymoo

I used Boots own brand. They worked brilliantly. No leaks.0

Thanks to you both - I will take the plunge then! I need to start cutting back somewhere and nappies are sooooo pricey. I'll check the best price on mysupermarket as suggested go from there.
Wilko/Boots here I come!0 -
I found the best to be Aldi's - fitted very snugly and very rarely leaked, even with the nastiest of nappies. Their wipes are great value too.Team Pink! Baby girl due 25/5/140

Hi, new here too, I like lidls nappies when we use disposables, or for even cheaper (in the long run at least) have you considered cloth nappies? might be worth trying freecycle or similar for second hand ones if you think you could cope with using them, I've used them for 3 children now and tend to swap back and forth but I really like them. Good luck with your money saving plans0

I find cloth nappies the cheapest, just bought the really basic terry squares, but as others have said, it might not be worth the hassle now. On kiddiecare.com you can get just4bums nappies, which come in a months supply and claim to be the cheapest option. They are v good, my one year old has no leaks with them, even overnight.MFW start date:22.6.13 - £138555 9.7.13 - £125937

I can vouch for both Aldi's and Lidl's nappies - I bought them as spare packs to keep here for the grandchildren - and thier parents were so impressed with them that they then bought them themselves - despite being Pampres and Huggles fans at first! Mother and Baby mags both think they are excellent value too as they regularly win top awards!
most own brands now are good - so dont be afraid to try any of the own brands - not every make suit EVERY baby and its a matter of finding the ones that suit your baby!0 -
I used Aldi's nappies no problems
in the nice weather you could just let her run around naked in the garden. that might save a few daytime nappies lolI have dyslexia, so get used to my spelling and grammarMortgage pay off date 11/2028. Target 12/2020 :rotfl:

lidl nappies are fab, however we were caught short once and bought asda value nappies and havent looked back since, we find all the value/basic/smart price ones the same so we buy them in the sainburys baby event at 97p a packet and stocked up, thankfully no more nappies here, i had twins so always had a high nappy bill.DEC GC £463.67/£450
