Anybody have any views on Scottish Mortgage Investment Trust or Caledonia Investments Trust, in terms of future income earning capability?0

Ok so for those of you who were kind enough to help me out with my IT list just a quick update to let you know I have actually taken on two Aberdeen IT's within their shareplan (Murray Int & Asian Smaller Co's). Costs are low, it is a regular saving plan and it frees up my ISA for the other ITs I want (as most don't do share plans these days) and the Vantage LS I am adding in - active vs passive in my own portfolio, will see how I get on!0

Considering the amount you are investing. I would stick to general IT's to give a wide exposure. Also you won't incur dealing charges for switching sectors.
My old favourite is Foreign & Colonial. A good backbone to a small portfolio. Has good exposure to private equity as well.0 -

Thanks to all of you for your input to date. My list now looks like this;
Schroder Oriental (will look at other IT's in this sector also)
Aberforth Smaller Co's
Murray Int
Merchants
JPM American
City of London
Aberdeen Asia
Edinburgh Inv IT
Got rid of Witan and Murray Inc as I ran the Morningstar X-ray and they clashed on holding overlaps too highly with Merchants and Murray Int.
Is the Morningstar X-ray tool available without signing up for the free trial? If not, are there any other websites offering free sector analysis without passing over credit card details?0 -
I use it by typing morningstar x ray tool into google and it bypasses the trial requirements. I am using at the moment to drill down into IT's. Really useful once you have inputted your allocations into the first section to then check the overlap of holdings and also the sector breakdown. Hope that helps.0
