On a personal note and as there seem to be a few dentists on this thread i also had a brace for a few a good years, after fixed brace came off a removable night one. As soon as I was ttold to stop using it, I did being a 16 yr old vain girl but within 3 months my teeth went almost back to where they were by which time I was working and had to pay huge amounts of ££ which at the time I couldnt afford, is there any connnection between not having any second teeth or was I unlucky??

Not only did my brace ruin my teens (and my teeth, bloke that took it off left all the cement on which various dentists have tried to remove since with little sucess) but now they want over 6K to sort out :-( any connection?

I had braces from around 12. The first went on to my canine teeth and pulled them back after extraction. The second went as one straight bar across my front teeth.
Similar to you my front teeth 'sprang back' and in the end I had a small operation under local anaesthetic to remove that little piece of flesh between your top lip and the gum as it was apparently acting like a rubber band. That solved the problem :D
  • My boyfriend was born with too few adult teeth - his two lower canines just weren't there so when his milk teeth fell out the adult teeth never came through. He now has two titanium rods fitted into his jaw and false teeth fitted over them, although I think that's still fairly uncommon (apparently when he had it done there was a flock of dential students there because it was considered something they might need to know about in the future). You genuinely can't tell they're not real though; I'd been going out with him for two years before it randomly came up in a conversation and couldn't tell the difference between the false teeth and his real teeth. He's about 5'10" and other than wearing glasses (well until he had laser eye surgery a couple of years ago) he doesn't have any other health problems.

I wouldn't worry too much for the time being - if you are concerned maybe mention it to the GP or the dental hospital next time you go, but otherwise I would leave it with them for the time being.

Lose = the opposite of find/gain (eg "I'm going to lose weight this year")
