Conservatory question

  • Where do people get this crazy idea from? I can assure you that conservatories are not classed as temporary structures. 'Temporary' in the planning sense of the word usually means 28 days.

ABS - you're absolutely right, I stand corrected. I think I got mixed up from various comments made by our building inspector when we were investigating our one - the building regs do refer to both temporary structures and conservatories... but not in the same sentence. :o

What I meant (probably) was conservatories are not normally classed as 'habitable' extensions, i.e. independent heating and divided from the main accommodation by doors. If central heating is extended into the conservatory and no dividing doors are installed (open plan) then would be regarded as part of the main accommodation with additional requirements.

Its a common thing to do. Many people think the two are one and the same, when in fact they are both quite different beasts.

I've noticed that some of planning advice on these boards is somewhat 'alternative' shall we say. Most people, as I'm sure you were, are just passing on what they believe to be right because they've heard it from someone else. In the same vain however, they need to make it clear that they are not sure that what they are saying is correct.

Getting things wrong can be costly and a right pain in the behind to sort out.
