Pre-notified bank charges

I logged into my internet banking this morning to find that they had taken off £150 - it said this was "pre-notified charges" I have not received any notification of this charge. Can they do this?

Banks are obliged under the Banking Code to give at least two weeks notice of any impending charges.
It's usually done on the previous' month statement (either on-line or in print). You might have overlooked it. Check your last statement carefully, if the forthcoming deduction is not advised, you have a reason to complain.0 -
Somewhere on your internet banking site there will be a page where you can view charges which are due. You probably missed it. State who you bank with and someone will be along shortly to tell you where to find it.0

I'm with first direct. I've had charges before, but they have written and told me about them in advance which did not happen this time0

I've found the page with charges - I was over my overdraft limit by £42 for 1 day and they charged me £100 for that!!!! The £50 was 2 returned direct debits which I was expecting0

If you were over your limit by £42 for 1 day, the fee will have been £25, not £100. Have you checked your account correctly ?0

Ive looked back, there were 4 times I went over, the other 3 times were even smaller amounts. I'm stuck in this cycle of charges, and all they suggest is cancelling my direct debits, but surely then I will just have my landlord and utility company chasing me instead of the bank?0

Thats right, but by cancelling your direct debits, you can control when you pay your bills, then there is no risk of incurring further fees for returned direct debits.0
