Paid for flights on credit card unfortunately I didn't take out separate travel insurance and have now been diagnosed with cancer and wondering if I can claim on my credit card? or would I need to speak to Ryan Air (lol)

Sorry to hear about your news. Is your problem that you don't want to/can't take the flights, and want a refund? Contact Ryan Air. They may have a 'reputation', but they do have a policy for this type of thing:
3.1.7 In the event of serious illness or death of a Passenger making it impossible to travel, the reservations of the affected Passenger and of persons travelling on the same booking reference may be refunded or, as appropriate, modified by our waiving any restriction or fee on changing flights upon suitable documentary evidence produced to us in advance of the date of travel.
Knowing Ryan Air, you'd probably have to be very, very gravely ill before they'll budge, but it's worth the price of a phonecall/stamp.0
