Ok,
I'm pants at writing essays. I have no idea why i just am. I seem to get lost in it all. They all turn out just average. This is hard to swallow when i am use to getting over 90% for all my other work.
I have written my latest essay and really need someone to cast a critical eye over it. I was wondering if someone out there might be able to help me with this?
My degree is management but i would be grateful for anyone to look over it.
Anyone out there that can help me?

Could you not ask for some more feedback on your essays to let you know how they could be improved? If you don't really know what the problem is then you've no real hope of fixing it.0

This might not help you, and is probably just my own rambling guideline, but I have always found that the following structure helped me write better essays when I was a student.
1) Intro - quick summary of background of the essay topic (dissertations need much more bulky literature reviews) but this needn't be too difficult and you can usually paraphrase from books/lectures.
2) Do the obvious - if the subject of the essay is about advantages of 'X', then list them and explain why, or if it's one of those questions that are based on: "Here is a topical statement relevant to your course subject. Discuss." then do exactly what they expect you to do and explore the topic.
3) Summary - the basic arguments so far presented and offer a opinion of your own.
If you were at GCSE level, this tends to be where you stop...but for anything more advanced, I would always include:
4) Pose questions re: bigger picture and/or argue/disagree with the original view you've presented - if you were previously discussing advantages, now's the time to highlight shortcomings or disadvantages. If you're discussing, say, a new style of management, bring attention to it's failings or how it wouldn't work. This is where you'd be more argumentative/inquisitive about the subject. Debating the question on paper with yourself against what was stated in 2) and 3)
5) Re-summarise with a more balanced argument presented. Apply to a bigger picture if possible, make conjecture about implications for future, etc. End with a punchy opinion of your own.
I was told years ago that the best way to answer an essay question is to simply disagree with it. Doesn't always apply, but it does show that extra thought has been given.
Obviously, throughout you should cite respectable sources for every opinion made where possible. Your bibliography should be detailed and varied.
Hope that helps. Best of luck."Who throws a shoe, honestly?"

Hi
Try this link .
This site was set up by one of my lecturers and has excellent tips and advice on essay/assignment writing etc. As a mature student i found some of his techniques really useful, in particular the writing techniques section.
It definitely helped as graduated last year with 1st class hons degree in business mgmt.
If, after having a look at the site, you still feel unsure then you're welcome to PM me"A bargain is something you can't use at a price you can't resist." Franklin Jones0 -

if you want to post a few hundred words so that we can cast a critical eye over your style, then go ahead. it's hard to be too specific about content without knowing what's covered in your lectures (i.e. what they expect to in there and what is material you've looked at yourself).:happyhear0
