I've been in this situation (several years ago). I didn't not want to go, so called the airline (we had allocated seats) and asked to change seats. They were very sympathetic and placed us at opposite ends of the cabin. I got a large seat with extra leg room, he got a cramped middle seat which squashed his legs

On the holiday, we didn't spend time together unless absolutely necessary (a trek in a group) but I still didn't speak to him, just the other travellers. I had a fantastic time, I even went on a date with a very handsome Argentinian

There are lots of friendly people in Oz, and lots of people travelling on their own. Be brave and go on your holiday

Don't forget if you cann't travel for any reason you are entitled to a refund of the Taxes, but only if you cancel the flight.
A no-show will result in you being unable to claim a refund.
