Full Signed England Team Shirt for Comic Relief.

On Wednesday 8 March, I was part of the team from MSE Towers, to compete in the 'Nationwide Comic Relief Journalist Quiz'. Now sadly we came last (mostly because of only 2 out of 10 in the Sport round, terrible - though our excuse is rowing and cycling seemed to make up most of the questions!).

Yet there was a raffle too, and in that we won, getting a full framed, England Team Football Shirt, signed by squad members from the 2006-7 season (Nationwide sponsors the England team). As it's such a great prize, rather than trying to split the spoils, we decided we'd put it on eBay and give all the proceeds to Comic Relief.

If you're interested please bid! Oh, and there will be no 'delivery costs' (provided you're in the UK) - we'll foot the bill for that.

Maybe this has already been though of, but would it be possible (and morally acceptable) to make the payment in a way that Gift Aid would come into play?

For example....
- Item goes for £500
- If payment made direct to Comic Relief and gift-aided, Comic Relief receives £610.
- If buyer is a higher rate tax payer, they could claim back a further 18% (£90) and donate that to Comic relief, making a total of £700.

(of course they could gift aid the £90, claim back 18 %.....ad infinitum).

Or am a I showing off my lack of fiscal understanding ;-)

This isn't money saving. This is encouraging people to spend a lot of money on what they neither want, nor need. Where's the money saving in that?

I don't know Martin, but I'm surprised that he's done this. For me, it doesn't seem very credible.

This object a. raises cash for charity, b. may potentially hold its value, c. can be used to decorate the home, d. is something that will give people pleasure.

MoneySaving is about getting the best deals and using your money wisely. You'll find this is consistent through-out the site - this isn't a thrift site.

I remember once being interviewed and told my fellow interviewee has "been to New York on Concord and back on the QE2" wasn't that awful. Yet its not awful provided a. they can afford it and don't need to borrow and prioritise it and b. they didn't pay £7,000 when it was available for £3,000
