If we did think about selling the Mondeo, how easy is it to sell relatively expensive cars privately?

Not only is it a £9k ish car, it's 2 years old with 2 previous owners which doesn't look good. If I saw a 2 year old car advertised with 2 owners, I'd skip straight over it to be honest...

I shouldn't be too hard but it is like selling anything, you need to be lucky enough to find a buyer that wants what your selling.

Many a private sale car was left unsold even during the boom times, which is why companies that brought cars from private individuals have become successful.

You'd be mad to have a company car as a second car - it makes absolutely no sense. Every mile you do in a car costs money, and I'm not talking about fuel, I'm talking about depreciation and wear and tear (brakes, clutch, gearbox, tyres, oil, filters, added mileage etc etc)

You need to put all those costs onto your husbands employer to save you money. Why have a company car at all if you're going to do all the miles in your private car and suffer all those costs yourself.

Selling the Mondeo will be no different to selling the Astra. £9k is not a massive amount to spend on a secondhand car. Just research the prices on Autotrader and then put an advert in.

I agree with the above. It makes MSE sense to put your high mileage on the company car, therefore sell the Mondeo and keep the Astra as a run around. Selling the Astra also puts £9k in your pocket which will pay towards the Astra running costs and possible replacement in 3 or 4 years.

Sounds like you've already got the blinkers on and convinced yourself to keep the mondeo.

Let the company car take all the miles and the company takes the running and depriciation costs. Keep the Astra as a runaround.
