Bought a used car, 2 days in - problem! Is the Dealer being unreasonable?

Hi,

As the title suggests, two days ago I picked up a used car (2006 VW Polo 1.2) from a dealer.

Driving to work this morning, the engine management light came on. No obvious problems as yet with the running of the car, was driving ok, just the warning light appeared on the dash.

Called the dealer as soon as they opened, anticipating that I'd be able to get it looked at ASAP.

They say the earliest I can have it looked at is 11th June! Am I being unreasonable to expect to have it looked at earlier than this? I'm concerned that by driving it in this condition I may be causing more damage, and I have had the car for less than 48 hours!

Not using the car in the meantime is also unfortunately not an option as I rely on the car completely to get to and from work.

I would email them, reporting the issue and asking when is the earliest they can look at it. When they reply (store all relevant emails so you can print them off later if necessary) saying that they cannot look at it until June 11th, respond back by saying that you will therefore take the car somewhere else and will forward any invoice on to them.

For goodness sake drive it back to them and tell them how unhappy you are and if they don't look at it today and tell you what is wrong/rectify it, you'll be having your money back.
What if you do drive it for another couple of weeks and it knackers the engine (very unlikely) until they deign to look at it?
Did you research the dealer before you handed cash over? This attitude comes either from the unscupulous chancer trader or the mega dealerships where they have internal cost bases and the sales team don't want to pay out to the service department - none of your problem.

Dealer just needs to plug a laptop in to get a diagnosis. 5 minute job.

I would push to get him to do this at least sooner than 11 June.
