Corsa SXI 2003 wont go in reverse

I've a 2003 Vauxhall Corsa and i'm having trouble getting it to go into reverse gear. It seems to take several attempts to get it in gear! I've got it booked into the garage for next Thursday, however does anyone know whether its safe to drive it until then? I won't be going long distances and all other gears are fine.

I can eventually get it in reverse gear so its not a crisis. I've googled this problem and it seems reasonably common for this type of car (and not too expensive to fix)

I just don't want to do any more serious damage to the car if I drive it around next week!

Been there, done that :) Be very careful when parking.

Place I worked at was generous, they had a roundabout on their site for the trucks to turn around, so they let me park on top of that roundabout until I could get the car fixed at the weekend.

By the end of the week, the gearbox had jammed completely in 3rd and for some strange reason it needed a new clutch as well as a new gearbox :)

I'll just get the garage to sort out the linkage for me. They're very good and i've been using them for years so I probably won't have much control over where they get the linkage from!

Worn gear linkage very common on this car mine had the same fault but with first gear.

Make sure you get the metal upgrade one. Then you wont have to do it again. very easy job and shouldn't be too expensive.

I should probably clarify my above post. I wasn't talking about a Corsa and my problem wasn't a gear linkage. A pure gear linkage fault is unlikely to get worse and worse the way mine did. This was a 1989 Ford Escort.

4 days after I shelled out for the new gearbox a taxi driver in a Volvo wrote that car off by overtaking me at speed as I made a right turn.

    Gear linkage will get worse.
