Very urgent!! Need to tax car in NI to take back to England.

I am over in Belfast and due to go back to England in a couple of days. I found a wee car I want to buy, but the tax runs out tomorrow.
The owner already has the insurance transferred to their new car, so they can't insure it.
I need to get the insurance done for my home address in the UK so I can't insure it here as it is not a NI address and I need a Norn Iron address to do the tax..
Any ideas?

Could I maybe get insurance for 1 day just to get it taxed, then I can start my 'real' insurance from tomorrow?
Do I need to show Photographic ID, so it proves a NI address?

I would really like to buy this wee car- just have this problem. Need answers this morning.

I have put this on the Northern Ireland forum too.

You can indeed take out a day's insurance and so long as you can print out the cover note AND the tax issuing post office will accept it (they should do but some can be a bit funny) then you'll be able to tax the car. One thing I'm not sure about is if a NI post office will get a bit funny about issuing a tax disc against a car insured at an address in England.

I would insure it in NI for the day, but the car owner must be resident in NI to tax it. Did it through my sister before when in a similar situation, but meant she went on log book as an owner, even though it was for just a day or so.

In that case I'm not sure you can do anything about it. I take it you have the V5c with you, has it been filled in with your details yet? If not, fill it in with your sisters to get the car taxed.

Been in touch with DVLNI again. I can go ahead and get full insurance for my England address and use that as long as the insurance company cover me to tax a vehicle in NI.
Insurance company were very good and contacted the DVLNI and have assured me that I can.
