If there's a NP Meet up ... anybody who can't do long division can take a special quick PN lesson in it .... and you'll instantly be able to do long division and wonder why the heck the penny hadn't dropped donkeys' years ago. It'll only take 4 minutes tops.
If you've got 10 minutes, you can master long multiplication too.... go on, you know you want to.0 -
I can understand that. I can do long division, but I have spent a lot of my life hiding the fact that I don't know my 7, 8 or 12 times tables properly, because I was in Australia for a year (where they didn't teach them at that age) while everyone else was learning them back in the UK.
I onviously had teouble with six x seven or seven times six, because i never, ever for get that one now.. Its the first number into my head often enough.

I've recently been in 2-3 shops where managers/proprietors have tried to offer a discount using a calculator.... and I've had to correct them each time, having carried out the very simple sums in my head. e.g. 20% reduction from £4.95 doesn't make the price £4.60.... in fact, in the end, he "let me have it" for £4 and believed he was doing me an extra favour ... I pocketed my £1 change knowing I'd been robbed, but he was completely lost.
Things like this I am fine with. Esp working out discounts0 -
Ah ha! That makes a whole lot more sense
My job isn't so glam though. Think I definitely pulled the short straw!
In that context, I'd much rather pull a short straw than a long string:eek:Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Last Saturday I was somewhere where the instruction was "measure round the item.... and you want to cut a length 2.5x the circumference". I measured, 8cm, said "Oh, 8, so that's 20" and grabbed the stuff.... other person had to have the maths done for them... doh.0

There's enough people out there who if you asked them to count their hands twice would give you three different answers.:eek:There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0
