Some waster has decided to key my car (and others) over the last few weeks and caused a lot of damage. They are deep scratches down to the white primer on a VW Polo 2002.

Short of paying loads of money (and why should I) at the bodyshop, what is the best product out there for doing a good job of covering up/filling in ? I have heard about the company "Chips Away" but my friend said they did an appalling job and got her money back.

Many thanks.

If you are feeling brave you can have a go yourself - the kits from paints4u.com will do this.

Otherwise head across the the forums at https://www.detailingworld.co.uk and ask the question there.

You may find better recommendations if you are willing to tell people an approximate location.

Yeah this happened to my car recently too.. Right down the drivers side :( There is a nice website, autobodycompare.com that'll get you the cheapest estimate in your area if you are unable to find an alternative solution!

I used Gtechniq P1 Nanocomposite Polish. Very easy to apply doesnt require a machine polisher.

chips away is a franchise you get some people who are goodit a bit like the lottery if they do a bad job then like your friend you get your moneys back.

you can do it your self for a the price of a few sheets of wet&dry, paint and a good eye for detail

Sorry red eye, only saw the thread header didnt read the whole post! doh!!

    my apologies.

If your car is a 2002 model, you can save yourself a few quid by getting some touch up paint. You wont get a professional finish but it will look a lot better.

Halfords do the best touch up pens, as theirs come with a fine point nib - rather then a brush that comes with VW touch paints.

With the touch up pens, best thing is to slowly slowly layer it. Remembering to over fill. Make sure area is cleaned properly before hand.

http://www.paints4u.com/ProductDetails.aspx?productID=6912 do a nice touch up kit. This works a bit differently in that you smear the paint all over the scratch, leave to dry and remove using blending solution.

I used http://www.drcolorchip.com/how-it-works.php on my car, didnt know about Paints4u at the time. Its a cheaper alternative.

Let me know if you have any more q's on it.
