in Cutting tax
I need to make some reclaims for a pension which I have not received any tax relief on. i have been paying this pension for around 20 years and it was OK while I was under PAYE as I paid tax and therefore could claim back the tax.
When I went self employed I thought that I was already getting the relief at source, but I was paying it gross. ( I need to pay more attention to detail )
How many years back can I reclaim taxes. I have been told 3 , 5 and 7 years, so would like a more definative answer
Thanks

You say in your other post on the other thread that this is a s226 plan - which is why it is paid gross.
This question makes no sense at all though because as a self-employed person you would have already filed tax returns every year.
Were the returns completed incorrectly, if so by whom?0 -

It is entirely my husbands fault as he thought the Pension was paid net ( its his pension ) and so he hasn't been claiming any tax relief. It was only when I recently got out the actual pension document, as we wanted to review the whole pension situation he has, that I read it was paid gross0
