Unauthorised use of credit card

in Credit cards
I have had a large payment taken from my credit card by a hotel I stayed at over a year ago. The hotel is in Belgium.
I have contacted them to say that this has happened, and they have responded to ask me for my bank details for reimbursement.
I would have thought they would just recredit the credit card, rather than me giving them even more information. What should I do? Also, the payment was taken in Euros, but my credit card obviously is in Sterling.
I have contacted my credit card company who are sending out dispute resolution forms, however I just want the quickest resolution to this.
Any advice please?

Go through your cc company as they will do a chargeback to your card, they should do a chargeback to sterling value.0

I'd personally insist it's refunded to the card - and if they won't/can't take it up with the card issuer (who shouldn't charge you any interest on it as it wasn't your spending).
Though if you can get them to agree to also refund all the charges etc. you incurred from the credit card for foreign exchange fees etc. - and any fees you may incur from receiving the payment - I don't see why you shouldn't just go along with it.0 -
If they refund to the card prepare for a 'loss' to be made on the transaction - for which you should chase the credit card up for.
This will be for the difference in exchange rate between buying and selling.0 -
Why make such hard work of it ?
All you have to do is tell your credit card issuer that you did not make the transaction and you don't pay any of it on your card statement.
It isn't your problem - it isn't your money - don't worry about it.0 -
Thanks for your replies.
I think I will go through the credit card issuer afterall. I want the full balance to be returned, and can't see that this would be easy when you take into account exchange rates.
I also don't want to give them any further bank details seeing as they couldn't be trusted with a credit card.0 -

I had a similar situation a few years ago. I bought some car parts, and was randonly re-debited for them quite a while later. I contacted the supplier who got the willies over me contacting the card issuer, because they'd had too many complaints about this kind of thing (!!), and their ability to take card payments as a business was already under threat.

Don't wish to be pedantic, but there is nothing to "return". Someone else has spent money that didn't belong to you in the first place, the credit card issuer will either write it off or try and recover it from someone else. They will remove it from your statement.
I will say it again - it isn't your problem !0 -

Don't worry about being a pedant, I see your point. My mantra is now - not my money, not my problem!0
